Tips on Preparing for a Hurricane
Being a Florida native, I have become pretty familiar with the annual hurricane season and all it has to offer so I wanted to share some tips on how to prepare!
For starters, make sure you keep up with the weather updates and news because we all know how quickly it can change. I like to follow a checklist to make sure I have everything I need.
Here are some things you can do to better prepare your humble abode and family from the possible storms.
Hurricane Emergency Kit/Checklist:
Buy Bottles or Gallons of water
Buy Non-perishable foods (canned goods)
Make sure you have a few flashlights .
Batteries (Tip: I like to have a few rechargeable batteries just to have some back up battery for my phone or laptop)
First aid kits are always good to have handy too!
SANDBAGS!! This is a simple and effective barrier to lay around the house (lay them tightly next to each other for best coverage)
Clean up the front and backyard of any debris laying around, clean your gutters, and cut down any tree branches that may be hazardous during the storm.
If you have any outdoor patio furniture, toys, or any items laying around, make sure to bring it all inside to avoid it being picked up and thrown around during the storm.
& lastly, STAY SAFE!
These are some things I do to get ready for any storms headed my way. Hopefully we don’t need to bring out our checklist this year but it is always better to be safe than sorry!
